Care Instructions: Lingual Braces

Comprehensive Care for Your Lingual Braces

Taking care of your clear aligners is extremely important to achieve optimal effectiveness and hygiene. Proper cleaning ensures your aligners stay clear and discreet by preventing the buildup of bacteria and plaque. Routine maintenance also helps you avoid bad breath and potential oral health issues. By following your orthodontist’s guidelines and cleaning your aligners daily, you can ensure they fit correctly and work effectively, resulting in a beautiful and healthy smile.

How to Properly Care for Lingual Braces:

  1. Brush Thoroughly After Every Meal: Using a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste carefully brush all surfaces of your teeth, especially around your brackets and wires on the back of your teeth.
  2. Floss Daily: Use a floss threader or orthodontic floss to clean between your teeth and around your lingual braces. This helps remove plaque and food particles that can lead to cavities and gum disease.
  3. Rinse with Mouthwash: Use an antimicrobial or fluoride mouthwash to help reduce plaque buildup and keep your breath fresh and clean!
  4. Avoid Hard and Sticky Foods: Stay away from foods like nuts, hard candies, chewing gum, and caramel that can damage your lingual braces or get stuck in them.
  5. Use a Water Flosser: A water flosser is extremely helpful in cleaning around your brackets and wires, reaching areas that traditional brushing and flossing can’t get to or miss.
  6. Wear a Mouthguard for Sports: Protect your braces and teeth by wearing a mouthguard during any physical activities.
  7. Check Your Braces Regularly: Look for any loose wires or brackets and contact Dr. Dao if you notice any issues.
  8. Use Orthodontic Wax for Discomfort: You can apply orthodontic wax to the brackets or wires to soothe any discomfort. For discomfort that is not easily resolved contact Dr. Dao as soon as possible.
  9. Regular Dental Visits: Continue with your routine dental check-ups and cleanings to maintain overall oral health.
